Homestay in Oxford @ Sharn’s

I have been studying CAE and CPE for several years, but I have never had  such a patient, friendly teacher, with an eye to details for grammar and phonetics.
I arrived on Sunday, and a nice lady, the teacher’s mother, opened the door and welcomed me with an Oxfordian accent.
The house has been a family home for generations. I met the very clever daughter of Sharn’s, a gitl with a posh accent, very similar to the one that is spoken by Queen Elisabeth and by BBC. A special surprise, I did NOT expect at all, was the food: at dinner’s time, I tasted the best traditional British dishes.
However, do expect to be part of the host family and do NOT be too lazy to help the 3 ladies of the household. Lesson have been clear, useful and, by noticing my progresses, I discovered a marked improvement of my English language. Lessons are prepared in advance with care, so please leave the teacher spare time to daily study your coursework.  Ms. Sharn, the teacher, is qualified to learn any level and typology of exams.
I warmly reccomend the course in Oxford, because there is no other place in the world to experience a so intense full-immersion in the Native English language.

Io ho studiato per la preparazione degli esami Cambridge CAE and Cambridge CPE per parecchi anni, ma non ho mai avuto un’insegnante cosi paziente, amichevole, con un’attenzione particolare per i dettagli grammaticali e fonetici.
Sono arrivato di Domenica, e una gentile signora, la mamma dell’insegnante, mi ha aperto la porta con un accento di Oxford, augurandomi benenvenuto !
La casa e’ stata una residenza famigliare per generazioni. Ho incontrato la figlia di Sharn, una ragazzina con un ottimo accento, molto simile a quello parlato dalla regina Elisabetta e dalla BBC. Una speciale sorpresa, che non aspettavo affatto. e’ stato il cibo: a cena ho assaggiato le migliori pietanze della cucina tradizionale britannica.
Comunque, aspettatevi di vivere una esperienza come membri di un nucleo familiare, e non siate pigri nell’aiutare le tre componenti femminili del nucleo familiare di Oxford. Le lezioni sono state chiare, utili e, annotando i miei progressi, ho riscontrato un miglioramento marcato del mio inglese. Le lezioni sono preparate con cura, in anticipo dall’insegante, Ms. Sharn, quindi lasciate del tempo libero all’insegnante per prepararvi il corso personalizzato ogni giorno.
Raccomando il corso in Oxford, perche’ non c’e’ nessun altro posto al mondo per fare parte di un corso cosi’ intensivo della lingua inglese nativa. Salvatore, Italy, August 2017

Výuka angličtiny probíhala formou individuálního studia. Sharn je učitelka s velkou trpělivostí a důsledností, která má mnoho zkušeností s výukou jazyků. Velmi se mi líbila tvořivost, propracovanost, flexibilita a přizpůsobivost tempa studijního plánu dle dosažených výsledků. Setkal jsem se s mnoha lidmi. Nezapomenu, že jsem musel mluvit pouze anglicky a pozorně angličtině naslouchat. Nezaznamenal jsem žádný problém s ubytováním nebo jídlem v průběhu pobytu. Počasí bylo hrozné, větrné, zamračené a deštivé. Slunce a modrou oblohu jsem viděl pouze dva dny, ale takovéto počasí je pro Anglii v prosinci typické. Měl jsem hodně času se učit anglicky. Vložené peníze do mého vzdělání byly pro mne velmi dobrou investicí.

English lessons were formed as individual studies. Sharn is a teacher with great patience, consistency and she has a lot of experiences with teaching languages. I like very much creativity, sophistication and flexibility of the rate of the studying plan according to the reached results. I met lots of people. I do not forget that I had to speak only English and listened to English carefully. I did not notice a problem with the accommodation or meal. The weather was terrible, windy, dull and rainy. I saw the sun and the blue sky only for two days, but this weather is typical for England in December, so I had a lot of time for learning English. Sharn is just a fantastic teacher. I just passed my CPE with an A and I couldn’t have done it without her classes. She is an experienced and skillful teacher, each lesson was carefully prepared around my needs and there was an ongoing monitoring of my progress and learning priorities. Throughout I was provided with exercises and resources to improve my English in all areas, from grammar to vocabulary to pronunciation. We also did several practice tests which were crucial in building up my confidence towards the exam, because I knew exactly what to expect and how to approach the different parts of the test in the most effective way. The lessons were never boring, and I learnt a lot about British culture and current issues as well. Sharn has always been flexible in accommodating for my weird working patterns and she is also very warm, supportive and fun to work with. I wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone who wishes to improve her/his English or sit an English test, you wouldn’t find a better teacher in Brighton!

Sharn è un’insegnante fantastica. Ho appena passato CPE con A e non avrei potuto ottenere questo risultato senza le sue lezioni. È un’insegnante preparata e con esperienza, ogni lezione era pianificata secondo le mie esigenze, i miei progressi erano costantemente monitorati e così le mie priorità. Gli esercizi assegnati e le risorse che mi sono state messi a disposizione mi hanno permesso di migliorare tutti gli aspetti del mio inglese, dalla grammatica al vocabolario, alla pronuncia. Abbiamo anche fatto diversi test di simulazione, che sono stati fondamentali per arrivare fiduciosa all’esame, perché sapevo cosa aspettarmi e come affrontare le differenti parti dell’esame nella maniera più efficace. Le lezioni non erano mai noiose e ho imparato molto anche sulla cultura inglese e su argomenti di attualità. Sharn è sempre stata disponibile ad adattarsi ai miei strani orari di lavoro, ed è anche molto cordiale, incoraggiante e divertente. La raccomando sinceramente a chiunque voglia migliorare il proprio inglese o preparare un esame, non potreste trovare un insegnante migliore a Brighton!

“If you have any English problems, I think Sharn is the best doctor for you. She can diagnose your language troubles appropriately and offer you the well-designed lessons on the basis of proper prescription. I am a journalist in Japan and came to Brighton last summer. I was in need of improving my limited speaking and listening ability, but I had no idea about it at all.

She gave me lots of chance to practice the English listening. She often used the listening materials which were related to journalism, such as journalist’s talk, social problem reporting or parliamentary discussion. They were totally interesting and intellectual stimulating. I think she always choose the teaching materials based on student’s interest and this is why her lesson is always exciting, interesting and actually more than the mere English lesson.

In terms of speaking, she taught me many fundamental and practical pronunciation principles, which were very useful and many non-native speakers often fail to achieve. And also, we always had a discussion about everything…from British politics to the Advent candle! (In fact, I was always surprised that she had a wide range of interests…) It is true to say that this practice contributed a lot to the improvement of my speaking skill.

Therefore, I’m sure Sharn is one of the best teachers for the non-native speakers who want to improve their English. If you live in Brighton or Hove, she is the best. She also has a long experience of teaching academic English as well. If you are concerned about the writing or reading, she can help you for sure!”
