I’m setting myself a challenge this academic year to do as many CPD courses as I can. It’s been 20 years since I did my DELTA, 10 since I finished my Masters, and 3 years since I moved to teaching online and I feel like I could use some input.
My goal is to find new activities, explore new approaches and keep my classes interesting and relevant for my students and myself.
Considerations:
- I have a limited amount of time and money.
- As it’s been so long since I’ve taken an EFL course, even the most basic courses could offer something useful so no course is too basic to be considered but the grail is to find new, interesting, lesson-changing content.
I’m starting my search for courses with International House, the British Council, FutureLearn and Coursera.
Update:
I chose International House because I work for an organization that used to be a part of IH and could qualify for a discount on courses. Unfortunately, the organization I work for is no longer a part of IH. However, I have handed over a significant, but I think, reasonable amount of money to take a course with Adrian Underhill called ‘Pronunciation, Performance and Poetry’. It looks amazing and I’m really looking forward to meeting the man himself.
The main thing recommending FutureLearn and Coursera is cost.
If you have any suggestions for useful courses I could take, let me know.
