What is hedging?

Point out: Very self-satisfied student, very definite language. He thinks he’s an expert!

Definite language is easy to negate. If you write ‘always’ or ‘never’ but just one exception is found, it destroys your argument. So, what can you do?

Hide behind a hedge! Use cautious language to protect yourself. This is much harder to argue against.
