Teaching Effective Thinking: Game – Forced Connections – Similes

This is one game to encourage remote connections, an important process in creative thinking (see the ‘Teaching Effective Thinking Introduction’. Give students a pile of random picture cards or a board and dice (a board and dice works better online), such as the one below.

Language focus: this game practices comparative as…as.

Each student picks two cards (or uses the dice to pick two picture squares) and thinks of a way to connect them e.g. Roast chicken is as effective as flowers to give a welcoming scent to a house; A kitten’s claws are are sharp as cactus prickles etc.
