When you give me a piece of writing, I mark it to show you the good parts and the things you need to correct. I will give it back to you like this with good parts highlighted:

What do you do when you get your work back with marking symbols on it?

Your job then is to look over the errors and see if you can correct them. Then give me back the corrected piece of work.

Why do we use marking symbols?

Marking symbols are particularly important if you are taking an exam course. It shows you what kinds of mistake you often make and what to look out for when you check your work in the test.
